I was studying at the University of Westminster up until summer 2000. As far as that University is concerned, my advice is steer well clear. I was there for two years, and when I was missing lectures, no one ever said a thing or even seemed to notice. Seeing as this was because I didn't realise I'd registered for the module, this was in my opinion a major failing for the University.

The University basically gave a bad impression of one which didn't care about anything but making a profit, and in my opinion was, as an educational institution, incompetent. If I were running a University, my main aim would be to teach students the skills they need to get their degrees. This University seems to have a policy of making a profit at any cost.

The result of their incompetence was that I left the University without a degree and severely embittered. The reason I ended up leaving was because I'd failed too many modules, one of which I never attended, the other I shouldn't have had to take. I was never given the advice which I'm sure most Universities would have been capable of providing, i.e. to retake the first year part-time, as I wasn't really up to taking the second year at the same time as retaking a double first year module. I wasn't even made aware that it was an option open to me, despite the fact that a good friend of mine was forced to take that route.

Anyway, I'm now moving on with my life. I was studying Computer Communications and Networks, and now I'm joining the Royal Navy as an Operator Mechanic (Communications), basically doing the same stuff I wanted to do anyway. I expect I'll get a much better level of training in the Royal Navy, and I'm very happy to have got in.

This latest update has been due for a while now. I hope it has been worth the wait, for me to come up with something worthwhile to say.

Obviously from now on I'll have a much better excuse for a lack of frequent updates. But I will try hard to make time when I have the time, and access to the Net.
